How Do I
Become A Reenactor? Our
organization actively recruits new members for both military and
civilian
portrayals. Many families join us because
this hobby lends itself well to family activities. Soldiers
must
be at least 16 years of age to handle and fire a musket, and must be
accompanied by an adult family member until the age of 18.
We do recruit younger boys to portray
field musicians, normally drummers and fifers, if they agree to take
lessons. Musicians must be at least 13
years of age and be accompanied by an adult. The 63rd
PA meets regularly in the Pittsburgh area, traditionally on the second
Friday
evening of every month. Annual dues
for membership are $10 per individual or $15 per family. Reenacting can be
expensive, but members are encouraged to buy their
gear over time. Many of our
members have loaner gear to help new recruits to get started as soon as
possible after joining. If you or
someone you know is interested in becoming a Civil War reenactor,
please feel
free to contact any person on our staff.
